Event: Forest Products Sector hold Media Availability amid punishing lumber tariffs
Date of Conference: Wednesday, October 22, 2025
Location: National Arts Center (Canada Room), 1 Elgin St, Ottawa, ON
Time: 0800-0830 ET
Background
Canada’s forest sector—an essential part of the North American economy—continues to face unfair and punitive U.S. trade actions. Forestry is a lifeline for hundreds of Canadian communities, directly employing over 200,000 Canadians and supports another 200,000 jobs across transportation, maintenance, and manufacturing. The stability of hundreds of rural and northern communities depends on a strong and predictable forest sector.
FPAC—on behalf of the forest sector, its employees, and forest-dependent communities—urges the Government of Canada to apply the same focus and determination to resolving the softwood lumber dispute as it has demonstrated for other important export sectors.
