Cody Oliver: Blog 3: FPAC 2022 Green Dream Internship Program

Hello everyone, today I want to explain my journey becoming an FPAC Intern. I have worked in the Forestry Industry for three summers now, one summer in Operations, directly working in creating Newsprint and the last two summers working in the accounting department, working on behind the scenes things that keep the company flowing smoothly. Last summer one of my colleagues was part of the FPAC internship, which was the first time I had heard of the opportunity, discussing with him about what it is and what FPAC is as an organization motivated me to want to do the same thing. I chose to become an Intern after researching and finding out what FPAC stands for and learning that their mission is to combat climate change while supporting Business’s within the Forestry industry. The forestry Industry is incredibly misunderstood, lots of people think the forestry industry is destroying our forests or making climate change worse, even though Forestry companies do quite the opposite. Forestry is one of the biggest industries within Canada, employing tons of Canadians (including my family). Forestry has provided my family with the means for an incredible life, it has provided every one of my family members a job at some point in each of our lives, it has provided the facilities for some of my favorite hobbies and been the backbone in majority of the things I have enjoyed since I was a little kid. Bringing these two points together gives me the exact reason why joining FPAC was the right decision, FPAC fights for business within the industry while also advocating for a greener future using forest management to fight climate change, protecting not only the forests but all communities for generations to come. Showing people the truth behind the forestry industry will hopefully change the negative perceptions of the industry, allowing us as one big community to move forward, working together to create a greener future for everyone. FPAC is the organization fighting for this future, pushing the truth about the forestry industry, and fighting for the greener future for our Country. To summarize, I learnt about the FPAC internship, and seen an opportunity to support an organization that is fighting for a future I want to see in my lifetime, and I am hoping by shining light on the reality of the forestry industry I am doing my part in helping that goal.
