Aaron Wilde: Blog 4: 2023 FPAC Green Dream Internship Program

Hello and welcome to my fourth blog! Today I am going to share my experience from going to Big Valley Jamboree last weekend and some other fun stuff that I’ve done this summer!

I briefly got into what Big Valley was in my last blog, but I will explain it again in case you didn’t read it! Essentially Big Valley is a four-day country music festival in Camrose Alberta where you camp and attend different country concerts all weekend. They play 4-5 sets each day, typically having the more popular people play later in the day. Each day also ended with a headliner at around 9pm.

Throughout each day, you can pretty much do whatever you want. Since we used this as a summer meet up with my university friends, we chose to mostly hangout on our campsite each day. The festival also has a trade show going on with some different carnival games. Overall, there is enough stuff going on to keep you busy all weekend!

The three headliners for this weekend were Dallas Smith, Morgan Wallen, and Dierks Bentley. Going into the weekend I was very excited to go and see Morgan Wallen! If you didn’t already know, he is the current biggest name in country music.

The weekend had some tough conditions to fight through with it being hot with little to no breeze, but I had a great time. The highlight of the weekend was seeing Morgan Wallen (even though to get a good spot we had to wait over 3 hours in a very crowded area). Getting to see him perform was a highlight of my life. He had the whole crowd entertained and singing all the words to every one of his songs. The energy of the concert was insane and just that set alone was worth the money I spent on the weekend.

Some of the other sets like Joe Nichols and Dierks Bentley were well worth it, but nothing compared to Morgan Wallen.

Overall, I had a great time at BVJ and it was well worth my money! Outside of attending BVJ, I have been golfing a decent amount. The flooding of Whitecourt’s golf course about a month ago has made it difficult to get out as much as I would like, but now that it has re-opened, I have played a few rounds. The course isn’t in as good of condition as before, but it is still enjoyable to get out and golf. I am going out on Sunday this weekend which is exciting!

That is all I have for this weeks blog, I hope you enjoyed reading about my weekend!

Until next time,

Aaron
