Here are some of my personal favourite things to do and trip ideas, all accessible with Hudson Bay as your base camp.

Oh, the things we find off the beaten path! Nature is unexpectedly beautiful and you find all manner of neat things when you explore and keep aware. I always strive for minimal impact when I explore.

Canadian forestry welcomes the opportunity to do our part so that Canada’s National Adaptation Strategy sets clear targets and performance measures for action that will better protect Canadians and Canadian jobs from climate-related threats like drought, pest outbreaks, wildfires, and floods.

I started my forestry career in 2017 fighting wildfires for Strategic Natural Resource Consultants. That was one of BC’s worst fire seasons to date and it was quite the experience to say the least.

The words Green Energy, 100% Utilization, Sustainability, and Good Neighbours are some of the first to come up. I know if managed correctly, forestry can restore health to a forest. It is a renewable resource that can improve plant growth and with the proper forest practices, it can reduce severe forest fires.

It’s always cool to see your education and workplace come full circle and realize why you worked so hard in school to get here.

Classes start back up in the beginning of September, so my time living in Slave Lake and working for Tolko are coming to an end as well.

If someone would have asked me what I would be doing during my work term for Tolko, writing blog posts on the side would not have been anywhere close to the top 100 things I would have thought of. Even though this internship was very unexpected, working with FPAC and Tolko to create these blog posts has been a wonderful experience.

There are many things which have made my work term at Tolko very enjoyable, and to summarize them I have used the six core values at Tolko to explain my favorite parts.

I’ve decided to start with an introduction to who I am and how I got here for my first post.
