The Forest Products Association of Canada (FPAC) is pleased to sign on to the open letter to the Prime Minister and premiers calling on smart government leadership to support the economic and environmental opportunity inherent in tackling climate change.
More than 60 groups have signed on to the open letter which was released today in Ottawa.
The group is calling on governments to forge a national strategy that would spur breakthrough clean technology research, development and deployment. The policy framework should include world class standards for energy efficient buildings and vehicles; green government procurement and skills development for an advanced 21st century economy that would secure Canadian competitiveness and jobs in a low-carbon world.
“The Canadian forest products sector is already an industry leader as we’ve pledged to remove 30 megatonnes of CO2 a year by 2030, more than 13% of the Canadian governments’ emissions reduction target,” says the CEO of the Forest Products Association of Canada, Derek Nighbor. “’Government investment in innovation and clean tech is critical to helping us achieve that ambitious climate change goal.”
Nighbor says the forest products industry is committed to doing its part to lay the foundation for a cleaner, greener and stronger economy that support middle-class jobs.
