Where To Buy Responsible ProductsConcern for the state of the world’s natural resources and the environment in general has never been more focused. People want to know that forests are being regenerated, that wildlife habitats are being protected, and that forest biodiversity is respected and maintained. Buyers of forest products want to show their customers and the public that they are making responsible purchasing decisions. In today’s global market, providing evidence of well-managed forests is increasingly done through independent, third-party certification. Certification is primarily about providing objective evidence of sustainable forest management planning and practices. Its concept is similar to a financial audit inasmuch as third-party experts verify a company’s performance against a set of objective standards. Canada’s forest management practices are among the best in the world, and a key factor in that achievement is the forest industry’s commitment to certification. |
Forest Certification
Forest certification is designed to send a market signal to buyers that the products they purchase are derived from forests that are managed to particular environmental and social standards. FPAC Members Companies must be certified to one of three internationally recognized certification standards – Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) – as a condition of FPAC membership.
