FPAC President & CEO Avrim Lazar To Be Honoured by United Nations Association in Canada

May 09 2011, Vancouver, BC

Forest Products Association of Canada (FPAC) President and CEO Avrim Lazar is among top forestry executives from across the country who will take part in a multi-day series of forestry-related dialogue, events and conferences taking place May 9-12 in Vancouver, BC.

The events are part of the Global Forestry Leadership Summit. They include the United Nations Association in  Canada celebrating the UN International Year of the Forest  by honouring Mr. Lazar at a gala dinner on May 11 for his leadership, commitment and remarkable achievements in both the environment and in industry – with a  special focus on his visionary role in the historic Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement.

Mr. Lazar also will participate in a panel discussion at the annual PWC Global Forest & Paper Industry Conference on May 11, focusing on “Changing directions: Opportunities and outlook for people, products and markets”.  He will use the opportunity to talk about the strategic support the industry is looking for from the new Conservative majority government.

After more than a decade of downturn, the industry has seen a marked increase in exports to China and India; the renewed potential for a robust increase in jobs; the potential to excel in the 21st century bio age with wood fibre being used for everything from clean energy to bio-chemicals and strides to make the sector a key contributor to the greening of the economy and the most environmental friendly forest products industry in the world.

Mr. Lazar will be available for comment throughout the week.
