Forest Products Industry Supports Legislation to Extend Employment Insurance Benefits to Long-TenureOctober 20 2009, OTTAWA, Ontario“The forest products industry applauds the government’s proposed legislation as it will provide hundreds of workers in our industry with the financial support they need during this time of deep economic uncertainty,” said Andrew Casey. “The recession has unfortunately taken a significant toll on the forest products industry, with the loss of more than 50,000 jobs over the past two years. This new legislation is a positive step for forest communities and families that depend on the industry.” - 30 – FPAC is the voice of Canada’s wood, pulp and paper producers nationally and internationally in government, trade and environmental affairs.
